Finding Hope in Challenging Times
With all the problems appearing in the world right now it’s easy to become discouraged, anxious or fearful. In these weekly classes we will find practical solutions to problems that seem unsolvable. Rather than feeling discouraged by all the suffering and pain we see around us, and within us, Buddhist teachings offer us scientific methods to understand the root source of our problems and to develop the capacity of our mind for real positive change.

Mental Freedom from Suffering & Problems
Our problems are really our own unpleasant feelings. Suffering arises from our mental attitude towards people and situations. Therefore, we can only become free from suffering and problems by training our mind.
“If we were to respond to difficult situations with a positive or peaceful mind they would not be problems for us; indeed, we may even come to regard them as challenges or opportunities for growth and development. Problems arise only if we respond to difficulties with a negative state of mind.” Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
In these weekly classes we will learn through teachings and guided meditations how to respond to all challenges in life with a peaceful and positive mind.

Peaceful Mind in a Stressful World
In our modern world it seems that, whatever our lifestyle, we will inevitably experience much stress and anxiety. But so much of the stress and tension we experience comes from our mind, and many of our daily problems, such as relationship difficulties and ill health, are caused or aggravated by this stress.
In these classes we will explore how Buddhist meditation, combined with a change in our perspective on life, can enable us to control our mind and thereby reduce and finally eliminate this stress. Through training in these practices and applying them in our daily life, we can develop an unshakeable mind that is always happy and relaxed, regardless of our external circumstances.

How to Make Ourselves Happy
Everyone wants to be happy but we don’t always understand it is a choice we can make. Happiness is a state of mind, and like any positive state of mind we can learn how it can be strengthened through the practice of meditation. Therefore we can make a choice to be happy in our life by training in meditation.
According to Buddha, authentic happiness does not depend upon amassing external conditions, such as wealth, beauty, status and so on, but rather its main ingredient is inner peace, and meditation is essential for developing this inner peace and happiness.

The Key to Good Relationships
Our relationships are important to us, however they can also be a source of much pain, worry and even conflict. Many of our relationship difficulties arise from our unrealistic expectations of others. As a result we can so often feel let down and disappointed and even resentful.
In these classes we will look at ways we can create healthy and harmonious relationships in all areas of our life. By learning to develop a balanced and loving mind towards others, we will find within our own mind a source of inexhaustible peace and joy that nobody can take away from us – no matter how they behave.

The Freedom to Choose How We Feel
All too often we can become overwhelmed by our feelings, especially if it’s anger in any of its forms… jealousy, resentment, frustration. We can feel stuck, as if controlled by these feelings, left unable to deal with our challenges. We feel lost. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
When we begin to understand how our mind works and functions in daily life we will see that we are able to reverse this situation and we can actually be in control of our feelings. With Buddha’s teachings and the practice of meditation we will find ourselves ready and able to deal with any situation with a calm and peaceful mind.
